Bring Your Own Video: Upload It, Get the Transcript, Make the Clips

Most podcasters don't record in the tool they publish from.

They record in Riverside, or Zoom, or on a camera in the corner of a spare room. Then they export a video file and start the second job: getting that file to do something useful.

Until this week, PodGlue couldn't help with that file. You could upload it, and nothing would happen. No transcript. No clips. Just a video sitting there.

That was a gap. So we closed it.

What you can do now

Go to Import Episodes and drop in your video. MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 500MB for now. You'll see a progress bar while it uploads.

Then open the episode and click Video Transcribe. PodGlue pulls the audio out of the video and transcribes it. You also get that audio as a proper podcast audio file, so the same upload covers both.

From there, Find Clip Moments reads the transcript and suggests the parts worth sharing. The hooks. The quotable lines. The moments that make someone stop scrolling.

Pick one and click Make Clip. About a minute later you have a vertical clip, ready to post.

The first one I made

I tested it on my own episode: Ar-Rahman, the first in my series on the 99 Beautiful Names of Allah.

PodGlue suggested six moments. The top one was a line I'd almost forgotten I said, about the mercy of Allah being tied, in the language itself, to a mother's love for her child.

That's the moment I'd have picked. It found it in seconds.

The clip keeps the whole shot, set over a soft blurred copy of itself, so nobody gets cut off. My video already had captions burned in, so I turned PodGlue's off. You can leave them on.

Your colors, not ours

A clip should look like your show, not like PodGlue.

So there's a new Brand Colors section in Settings. Click Detect Brand Colors and PodGlue reads them from your logo, or from your cover art if you don't have a logo. For Hacks and Hobbies it found our red and blue. For the 99 Names show, which only has cover art, it found the gold of the title and the navy of the night sky.

Check the colors, pick a font, save. Next, we're bringing those colors into your clip captions, along with your logo.

What's next

Right now uploads top out at 500MB, which is shorter than a lot of full episodes in 1080p. Lifting that is next on the list.

After that, getting your clips from PodGlue straight to the places you post them.

The conversation is the thing you made. The clips are how more people find it.

If you've got episodes sitting in a folder somewhere, bring them into PodGlue and see what's in them.
